Properly maintaining a company blog is probably not the most fun part of your business. At times it may feel like shouting into a deep hole to never even hear your own echo return.
But a regularly maintained and well-written blog is a crucial component in today’s best marketing plans, from the enterprise to the small local business.
If you just can’t come up with a fresh idea, check the list below and make sure you’re providing your audience with plenty of these 5 types of content.
- Pictures.
It’s an increasingly digital and therefore visual world out there. Pictures tell a story and in many cases can do so better than words ever could. Plus, when published in blog format, they are great for breaking up the monotony of text. Share pictures from around your workplace or of the products and services you provide. Even if you wouldn’t think that your audience is itching to see images of what you do, this brings a level of comfort and transparency to anyone who sees it.
- Interviews.
Interviewing someone within your company and posting it on your blog helps attach a human face and personality to your business. It’s a great way to answer frequently asked questions as well as provide some new information or a new perspective. Highlighting people from all levels in the company shows prospective employees and clients that you value your people regardless of their place in the hierarchy.
- Industry News.
You don’t have to be the one breaking the story, but there’s nothing wrong with contributing to the chatter around a particularly hot industry issue. Posting a blog highlighting a relevant piece of industry news is a great way to show that you don’t operate in a bubble, and that you’re tied into your own industry as well as industries relevant to your blog’s audience. Let them know what you think the key takeaways are for themselves and for you.
- Your Perspective.
Every once in a while, let them have a piece of your mind. Of course, I don’t mean in an aggressive way; write blog posts that set you apart from others in your industry. Have an unorthodox approach in some way? Publicize it. Notice some trend in the media or a meeting that flicked on a light in your brain? Write a post. It doesn’t always have to be long-winded to make an impact. The more sources within your organization you can get original ideas and writing from, the better.
- Free Information.
Whether it’s directly related to the goods or services you provide or simply intended as a value add for your audience, giving away knowledge is a great way to endear people to your blog and your brand. Hoarding all your jewels and fineries is a thing of the past. Offer your audience information that can make their lives easier in some way. The future is open source and the sooner you lose the fear of losing your shirt, the sooner the fruits will come back to you.
